Female stingrays were sampled throughout pregnancy to examine maternal offloading processes
Beach seining is used to sample for stingrays and other coastal elasmobranchs
During a Common Thresher Shark fishing tournament, we had the opportunity to sample tissues from a pregnant thresher and her pups to examine maternal offloading

Maternal Offloading
Contaminant Transfer from Mother to Pups
Goals
Characterize how matrotrophic strategy influences maternal offloading
Areas of Interest
Organochlorine contaminants, reproductive physiology
Groups Involved
Summary
Elasmobranch females invest a substantial amount of resources into offspring. Unfortunately, this results in females inadvertently transferring contaminants to their young. I am interested in how female investment influences contaminant offloading and the implications that has for contaminant accumulation, both in juveniles and adults
