Stingray Contaminants
Contaminants in Stingrays
Goals
Characterize contaminant accumulation in stingrays over ontogeny
Areas of Interest
Organochlorine contaminants, mercury, trace metals
Groups Involved
Summary
Round stingrays (Urobatis halleri) make excellent elasmobranch models to explore contaminant accumulation and tissue distribution. In this project, I am interested in how life stage influences not only the types of contaminants acquired but how they are distributed throughout the body as well as how physiological changes with maturity influences those dynamics.
